Amid a domestic violence scandal at the Ohio State University involving a member of the football coaching staff and his wife, legendary head football coach Urban Meyer has been suspended.

The University suspended Meyer for three games. Meyer will be missing games against Oregon State, Rutgers, and a key matchup against a strong TCU Horned Frog squad. He will be making his much anticipated return week four against Tulane.

William Burnette ’20, a passionate TCU fan, has some thoughts on how this will impact the Ohio State vs. TCU game.

“Obviously the situation is unfortunate, but looking at it from a TCU perspective, I think this helps our case to win,” Burnette said.

Meyer’s suspension comes after Brett McMurphy, a college football analyst, stated that Meyer knew of a domestic abuse situation with assistant coach Zach Smith in 2015. Smith was a part of Meyer’s staff until dismissed from the school on July 23 of this year.

Charlie Bynum ’22, is disappointed in Meyer’s actions.

“Being a coach means more than being good at coaching football. He should have been a leader and role model and spoken up about what he knew. He definitely should not have covered up the abuse,” Bynum said.

Blake Hyde ’20, an avid college football fan and aspiring analyst, thinks the suspension is not as long as it should be, and it will not affect the team that much.

“For the gravity of the situation, the suspension was clearly not enough. It should have been a year suspension or a possible loss of job. There may be some trouble staying in sync, but overall, the suspension should not affect OSU that much,” Hyde said.

Ohio State opened the season on September 1 against the Oregon State Beavers. The Buckeyes easily handled the Beaver, beating them by a whopping 77-35. Meyers rejoined the team Monday after the game. Meyer is allowed practice with the team; however, he cannot be around the team on game-days. The Buckeyes also handled business against Rutgers, routing them by a score of 52-3. The only test Ohio State should face in the three game stint is the Horned Frogs. Ranked 16th, the Frogs are hoping to take down the powerhouse Buckeyes at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas on September 15.. The coaching staff of OSU will likely be able to keep the motor running, even without their head coach, but TCU will be a tough test nonetheless.
